Briefly read and skim through the web page posted below and the links on the left-hand side of the page. After doing so, decide whether or not you think terrorism coming from the middle east mainly targets the U.S. or is it more of a struggle against anyone who opposes these terrorists' ideas?

While I'm sure the terrorists target anyone opposing their ideas, I also feel as though the US is one of their main targets. Especially with the rise of recent developments as described in this article. The US allying with Israel and their support against terrorist groups such as the Hamas and Hezbollah, all contribute to the idea that terrorism from the middle east often mainly targets the US.
ReplyDeleteso I think that terrorism in the middle east is vague. I do think that the Taliban is directed towards us because they are generally hostile towards us but that other middle eastern sects and countrieds such as Isreal are not directed towards us but are directed towards their opposition in the world. It clearly states on the page that Iran tried to help America after the attacks in 2001 but it is necessary to remember that the countries are not as centralized and that different sects have evolved with very different points of view
ReplyDeleteI think that these terrorist ideas spark from that fact that we are over in the Middle East. It is not necessarily that they feel their ideas are being opposed, but it is more of a sense that their religion and values are being treated in a manner that they do not agree with. So to answer the first question, yes I do believe the U.S. is a main target because we are the ones involving ourselves over there.
ReplyDeleteIt appears to me that terrorism in the Middle East can be defined in two regards; first, as terror activities within the region, and secondly as terror attacks outside of the Middle East. Looking at the latter, I think that terrorists in the Middle East are upset with the US - more so than many other Western nations. The United States represents a lot of liberties Middle Easterners are not accustom to, nor will they ever become accustom to. Therefore hostility and condescending actions are not taken lightly in the eyes of nations with feuding principles. Here I think we find the reason why much of terrorist actions in the Middle East are focused on the United States, as well as other Western nations.
ReplyDeleteExtremist Islam hates anyone who opposes their philosphy. However America epitomizes open opposition to the ideals of Islamo-Facism.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Isabel. The United States and the Middle East see eye to eye on very little, and this causes much hostility between the two. Due to these differences in thinking, the United States and the Middle East are often seen as threats to one another, thus creating a focus for the Middle East's terrorist actions.
